Do you rent or own your equipment?

I'm pretty lucky in that my friends and I between us have some pretty nice gear but I've been wondering about renting some equipment so I can try out something different. It's kind of expensive, though, and we've all so far been reluctant to spend any money we can budget towards producing a film.
